Dishcloths dishcloths dishcloths!

Over the holidays I've made a few changes to the site, and there are more to come.  I've also spent time working on lots of different projects, which I will focus on in the next few weeks.

Progress Update

The winter season is coming on and its the perfect time of year to be knitting.  Of course I am.  Nothing like handmade gifts ready for Christmas.  There's a fair amount of creative gifts on my list.  That being said I won't be able to show most of them till after December, for obvious surprise reasons.  ;)

Pixie hat

One of the reasons I started knitting is so I could make really cool original items. Because honestly, it gets boring making the same type of scarf all the time.  Or hat.

Bag of Holding

I have a little black backpack that I normally wear when I'm out and about.  But I've had it for so long that it's starting to get a bit run down.  I thought it fit to make it amazing before its totally worn out.

Photos of the Institute

I take a fair amount of pictures on my adventures.  But in the digital age I generally don't see them.  I upload them away into semi-organized index system.  So I have decided to collect old photos that I have that look really cool.

I spent a fair bit of time arranging and re-arranging, decorating and re-decorating my apartments.  And I always like repurposing when I already have.  So I have deviced a little instrutable on how to do it yourself!

Rainbow Gloves Pattern

As an update to the rainbow gloves I have now completed the pattern.  You can view the original post here.

Rainbow Gloves

Worked out so the rainbow pattern spreads evenly over 60 rows.  Follow pattern without colour changes for a basic fingerless glove. Make two.

Supa Wristband

My roomate is allergic to metals.  He can't wear rings or chains or anything like that without irritation.  But he has a superman ring that he wears almost religiously.  When we met I said I would knit him something to replace the ring.  Nearly 3 years later here it is.

Jammer Hat

Last week was the first bout of the season for our local roller derby team.   This gave me the perfect excuse  to open up "Knockdown Knits: 30 Projects from the Roller Derby Track" and pick a pattern.

Steampunk Goggles

Today was a very good crafty day.  It was so nice and I felt empowered!  So I spent the whole day on a project. It is quite steampunk inspired.

Steampunk is a genre of Science Fiction that fuses elements of Victorian culture and technology, with elements of modern society. It is experessed in many different mediums like novels, fashion, art, gagetry, etc.

A Handful of Hearts

I have a favorite pattern I would like to share.  It's a quick project that really takes no time at all.  I use it all the time as a last minute present or something special for my friends.

I'm always a big fan of hearts.  So I find this to be a great little gift to brighten up anyone's day.  Hope you like it!

Pom-pomed Hat

I have a tendency to leave a lot of projects unfinished.  I have things that have been sitting around needing to be sewn for years now.  This week's project is one of those neglected pieces.

It is a link-inspired hat that was initially too small.  I weaved in all the ends and then made a few pom-poms for the end.

Weeping Angel

I am a pretty big Whovian and have been looking for a good nerdy project to pick up.  I decided to make a weeping angel.

The weeping angels are an ancient race of aliens in the form of a crying stone angel.  They are the deadliest, most powerful, most malevolent lifeform evolution has ever produced.  They are stone only as long as you are looking at them.  So don`t blink!  First seen in the episode "Blink" from season 3 in Doctor Who.

Modern Gloves

This week I dug into my chest of unfinished projects.  I found a beautiful pair of gloves I started and pretty well finished a few years ago.

They are based off a pattern I had seen a while ago called callisto gloves

I wanted to make them myself and decided to do my own pattern.I was still learning how to knit so I was playing around with a bunch of different techniques. Each glove alternates colors in the pattern.

Red Mage

I highly enjoyed my attempt at double knitting with the pokeball.  So I thought I would give it another go.  I have a few patterns saved for double knitting that will turn out really well.  This time I decided to go with the Red Mage from Final Fantasy.

It took me a few tries to get the hang of it, but once I did this was a very quick project.

Pokeball!

This past week I've been pretty busy with some of my larger projects.  Because of this my project for the week is a pretty simple one.  I made up a Pokeball hackysack!

I will  admit that it would be much easier to crochet this then knit, but I've yet to properly pick up a crochet needle.  So it took me a few attempts to make a good one.

Tenticle Dice Bag!

My roommate came home the other day after going shopping.  We are a rather nerdy house and still love to play board/card games.  Especially Steve Jackson games.  If you have not played any I would much suggest getting a group of friends together and play one.

Our newest addition?  Cthulhu dice!   Cthulhu: Created by author H.P Lovecraft in 1928.  He is a mythical elder god. He strikes madness into anyone who sees him and fair other amount of super nerdy/geeky talk.

Optimistic Mitts

This year I've been back to school.  Yay student life!  This meant that I wasn't able to buy any of my family gifts.  So I did one better.  I hand knit all of my gifts.  :D

(left) baklava, (top) neckwarmer, (bottom) fingerless gloves,  (right) cowl

They were very quick, easy to follow patterns.  My favorite (as always) were the fingerless gloves.  The Optimistic Mitts.  I used the softest green yarn I had and they were so very comfortable.

Rainbow Gloves

One of my goals in knitting is to expand and learn more things to do.  So recently I made my own pattern for some fingerless gloves.  It's pretty simple but was a lot of fun to do.  I actually wrote down the pattern as I was going and made a few edits.

My friend Rainbow Brite wanted to have some fingerless gloves that she could wear around.  So I made these rainbow gloves.

Hobbit Dress

There have been a number of patterns that got me into knitting.  Most of them much too complicated for me when I was a beginner.

Things like this beautiful pattern for a Hobbit Dress.  I got so excited when I saw it that I went out a bought special wool for it.  At the time the pattern was above my knitting level and it never got completed.  So I set my wool aside.

Jayne Cobb Hat #2

So I spent my morning slowly working towards a goal of mine.  I eventually want to start selling my knitting, probably  through Etsy.  Or at the very least creating my own patterns for things.

I decided it was time to upload photos from my camera.  This is actually a rather difficult task as I lost the cord for my camera, and my card-reader.  I discovered that my adapter for the memory stick fits into the port for a memory card on my computer (I have an oddly shaped memory stick. :P

This lead to me (finally) organizing my photos and uploading them.

I promptly got distracted from that and found something to knit. Or rather, complete.  All it needs is earflaps and a snazzy pom pom!

Meet Jayne Cobb Hat #2.

For those who are not nerd enough, Jayne Cobb is a reference to Firefly.  He is known as the Hero of Canton.  He basically pulled a robin hood robbed from the rich to give to the poor type of thing.  And because he's such a great guy, Mama Cobb knitted him a hat.

That is my first attempt at knitting it and I think it went quite well.  I had started a second one right away but got distracted from it.  So I decided to pick it back up and finish it for a friend.
